36th Northeast Bioengineering Conference

36th Northeast Bioengineering Conference
Conference Location:  New York, NY
Conference Dates: March 26 – 28, 2010
The theme of this year’s meeting is “Biomedical Engineering for Society.” In the midst of a national discussion on transforming our health-care infrastructure, the role of biomedical engineering has never been more important. We are thrilled that the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) has endorsed this meeting, and will hold a session on how bioengineers can advocate for the future of engineering, on Capitol Hill and across the country. Also critical in the health-care debate is the ability to translate novel research developments into products that will improve the health of patients. In conjunction with Columbia Technology Ventures, we will feature a medical technology showcase on emerging medical-device technologies from some of the most promising industry players in the northeast.

Jessica Isaacs presented her talk entitled, “Effects of Enzymatic Digestion on Mechanics of In-Plane Annulus Fibrosus Lamellae

Poster presentations from the Biomaterials Lab included:
David Jamison: “Analysis of the Mechanical Behavior of the Intervertebral Disc under High-Impact Loading
Sumona Sarkar: “Immobilization of Chondroitin Sulfate for the Fabrication of Biomimetic Brush Structures
Chris Massey: “Effect of Aging and Degeneration on the Human IVD during the Diurnal Cycle: A Finite Element Study

Congradulations to Chris Massey for winning best poster at the conference
